Free Vintage Knitting Pattern – Groovy 1970 – 1971 Men’s Sweater & Scarf Combo

Image.jpg

Check this guy out – he’s such a dude in that scarf and jumper combo, and he knows it. I want to represent all of the good bits of the twentieth century (that are also out of copyright!) on this website, so after a run of quality 1930’s and 1940’s patterns, here is a gem from the late 1960’s or early 1970’s *. It’s made in DK yarn, which is possibly worsted or 8 ply in other countries.

*The pattern has both old currency and new decimalised British money as the price. As decimalisation was February 1971, I presume this pattern was published in 1970, but can’t be 100% sure. The style reminds me of 1969 and for no apparent reason this:

Free Knitting Pattern: His and Hers Cardigans from the 1960’s

Menswear is a little neglected on this blog, but I’ve scoured the Peak District on my holiday, ignoring the (rainy) outdoors and concentrating on charity shops and antique centres and I’ve found mostly men’s patterns from 1930s to 1970s. Here is the first – I love the hair do and the scarf on the left.

For DK yarn in 34 to 44 inch chest.

Free Vintage Knitting Pattern: 50s / 60s Norweigan Sweater

Free Knitting Pattern 60s Norweigan

Is this late fifties or sixties? I’m thinking pre-1965 anyway. They seem very happy about their sausages. Wait till they realise there is no chart for this knitting pattern! I recommend you use the fantastic Chart Minder website created by a tech and knitting mad lady. If you are going to, sign in with Ravelry before you start – I once lost a whole chart by doing it after editing.

This is in three bust sizes – 32 inch, 34 inch and 36-38 inch. The leaflet is printed in Norway for distribution abroad and features a logo in the top left that I haven’t seen on my other Emu patterns, for the mill A/S Dale Fabrikker, so I’m pretty confident in declaring it an Norweigan pattern, rather than a Scottish Fair-Isle.

Here is the pattern as a document or scroll down for pdfs. Does anyone know how I can add the patterns from my site to Ravelry easily? If it’s going to take ages I probably won’t bother as I’ve got another 100 patterns to scan and share here!

Free Patterns : Fair Isle and Colourwork 4 – Sixties Mod jumpers

Not fair isles, but there is more than one colour involved, so I’m adding them into that category. I adore the hair do on the left hand model and I bet her boyfriend has a Lambretta scooter. Both these jumper look awesome, but the added surprise is that the pattern has how to make those stockings too. And surprise two in the sizing. Right hand sweater is only in one size -34-35 inch bust, while the left hand “shirt” is in all sizes between 30 and 40 inches.

See it on Google Docs here.
