Free Vintage Knitting Pattern – Groovy 1970 – 1971 Men’s Sweater & Scarf Combo

Check this guy out – he’s such a dude in that scarf and jumper combo, and he knows it. I want to represent all of the good bits of the twentieth century (that are also out of copyright!) on this website, so after a run of quality 1930’s and 1940’s patterns, here is a gem from the late 1960’s or early 1970’s *. It’s made in DK yarn, which is possibly worsted or 8 ply in other countries.

*The pattern has both old currency and new decimalised British money as the price. As decimalisation was February 1971, I presume this pattern was published in 1970, but can’t be 100% sure. The style reminds me of 1969 and for no apparent reason this:

Free patterns : Fair Isle and Colourwork 6 – 70s Ladies Slipover

Today’s vintage pattern time machine is in the seventies. I’d call this a sleeveless pullover, or a tank top, but the pattern says slipover, so who am I to argue? This is the pattern for the fair isle and the surprisingly the trousers too (which don’t look knitted in this picture). See it on Google docs here.

Free Vintage Knitting Pattern: Child’s Cable Polo Neck

Miss Polo Neck and Mr Polo Neck have produced a lovely polo neck child and then given him a hammer. Ideal for young children to amuse themselves!

I did actually have my own hammer as a child, but at this child’s age it was in a plastic toy  tool set. I didn’t get a real one till I was about 8 or 9. That long summer holiday I spent every day hitting nails into bits of wool in the garage while singing along to Radio 1 and after six  whole weeks  I had made just the front door and two steps for a dolls house. Such fun though.

Unrelated to hammers, do they call this a roll neck in the US?  This comes in two sizes, either 26 or 28 inch chest. I can date this pattern accurately to 1971 as it has two prices shown. In 1971 the UK swapped from shillings and guineas, to decimal pence and pounds.
